Ready Strip Application Instructions
1. Description: Ready-Strip is a one of a kind, environmentally friendly, paint and varnish stripper capable of removing up to 5+ layers in one application. The revolutionary "Color Change" feature signals the time for paint removal. The stripper is applied to the surface and turns off-white or a pale green when the paint or varnish is ready to be removed.
ReadyStrip is biodegradable, non-flammable, non-combustible, virtually odorless and can be cleaned up with water. It contains no methylene chloride, caustic, harsh chemicals or harmful vapors like many conventional strippers. Ready-Strip avoids the uncertainty associated with other strippers that are ineffective if removed too soon, or dry out and not work if left on too long. Ready-Strip not only eliminates the guesswork and is safer to use, but will strip 2 - 3X more paint than conventional liquid paint strippers. Unlike other strippers, Ready-Strip is a semi-paste and therefore truly clings to vertical surfaces.
2. Types of Paint Removed: Ready-Strip can remove most varieties of household paints & varnishes which are water or oil based including, latex, stains, enamels, lacquers, clear paints as well as polyurethanes, etc.
3. Surfaces: Ready-Strip can be applied on a multitude of interior and exterior surfaces including wood, plaster, concrete, brick, stone, masonry, marble, metal and fiberglass, etc. Ready-Strip will not damage plaster or wood (discolor or raise the grain) or affect any surface it is used on. Ready-Strip is not to be used on sheetrock, plastic, rubber or linoleum surfaces.
4. Instructions:
A. TEST PATCH - Since it is often hard to know the type or amount of paint or varnish on a surface, a small test area should be tested first to determine whether the desired results will be achieved.
B. Preparation- Mask any areas not being stripped with plastic and masking tape.
C. Application and Removal- Apply Ready-Strip liberally to the surface with a brush, medium sized nap paint roller, or putty knife so that the remover completely "masks" or covers the color of the surface to be stripped. Do not attempt to brush out too thin like a coat of paint. It covers approximately 50 sq. ft. per gallon. Apply at temperatures between 60 F and 80 F.
When the stripper turns off-white or a pale green, it may form an eggshell like skin to lock in the stripping action. Misting the area to be removed with water or After-Strip Paint Remover Wash prior to actual removal will soften the skin and make lifting of the paint or varnish easier. After the stripper has turned off-white or a pale green, use a stiff putty knife to lift paint from flat surfaces or a stiff bristle brush for detailed areas. After initial lifting, use a nylon bristle brush or stripping pad to scrub surface. The time the stripper takes to turn off-white or pale green may vary depending upon the type and amount of paint, the surface and temperature. Typical color change usually occurs within 4 - 24 hours. Paint or varnish removal may take place prior to the "Color Change", although the "Color Change" will indicate the end of stripping action.
Apply After-Strip Paint Remover Wash or light amounts of water for final clean up of residue. Surface should be completely dry before repainting. No need to neutralize (acid wash) surface. Clean tools promptly after use with soap and water.
D. Removal Time - On interior surfaces, the softened paint/varnish may remain moist under the eggshell skin for several days for easy removal.
On exterior surfaces, due to the potential for higher temperatures and direct sunlight, the "Color Change" maybe greatly accelerated (1-8 hours). The paint should be removed shortly after "Color Change" to prevent the stripper from drying out. Not advisable for outdoor decks.
E. Hints - If Ready-Strip is applied too thinly, left on too long, or due to excessive heat conditions, the applied area is difficult to scrape, try the following: 1) Mist the applied area with water or After-Strip, wait 5-15 minutes and remove 2) Reapply Ready-Strip over itself, wait 15-30 minutes and remove 3) if 1) or 2) does not work, scrape off and reapply. If product freezes in bucket, let thaw and stir vigorously until product is consistent.
5. Safety Instructions: Due to the sensitive nature of certain person's skin, rubber gloves and safety glasses are recommended. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact occurs immediately flush with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Avoid prolonged and repeated contact with skin. If skin contact occurs, wash with soap and water. Maintain adequate ventilation especially in confined areas. If spraying is expected use NIOSH approved chemical cartridge (organic vapor) respirators. If swallowed do not induce vomiting. Give 1 or 2 glasses of water and call a physician immediately.
